The National Transport and Safety Authority has announced that its systems will experience intermittent downtime between Tuesday and Wednesday as it transitions to the new electronic logbook (e-logbook) system.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 9, NTSA said its systems will be intermittently unavailable from 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, to facilitate the migration.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to offer quality services to you,” the authority said.
Motorists and members of the public requiring assistance during the period have been advised to contact NTSA through its official email address or visit the nearest NTSA office.
The temporary disruption comes ahead of the official rollout of the e-logbook system on June 10, which will replace the traditional paper-based Certificate of Registration for newly processed vehicle transactions.
According to NTSA, the digital transition is part of the government’s broader effort to digitise public services and improve efficiency through the e-Citizen platform.
“As part of this ongoing transformation, the authority is pleased to announce plans to replace the current paper-based Certificate of Registration (logbook) with a secure, convenient digital version (eLogbook),” NTSA stated.
Under the new system, vehicle owners will no longer receive physical logbooks after vehicle registration or ownership transfer. Instead, ownership documents will be accessible through individual NTSA Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) and e-Citizen accounts.
The authority said the e-logbook will enable motorists to view, verify, download and manage vehicle registration documents online at any time.
NTSA noted that the digital platform will provide instant issuance of logbooks immediately after registration or transfer of ownership, eliminating delays that have traditionally accompanied the processing of physical documents.
The authority further said the system is designed to enhance security through tamper-proof digital encryption technology, helping curb document forgery and fraudulent vehicle transactions.
The e-logbook is also expected to benefit banks, Saccos and insurance companies by allowing them to verify vehicle ownership and lien status online before approving vehicle-related financing and services.
In addition, vehicle ownership transfers will now be conducted entirely online, reducing paperwork, shortening processing times and minimizing opportunities for corruption.
Motorists will also receive automated reminders for insurance renewals, vehicle inspections and other compliance requirements through the new platform.
Despite the transition, NTSA clarified that existing physical logbooks will remain valid and continue to serve as legal proof of vehicle ownership.
