Members of Parliament (MP) on Wednesday refused to have their pay cut.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) had recommended that Mps have their pay slashed to reduce the wage bill.
Speaking to the media, Homabay Woman Representative, Gladys Wanga said that they would not allow themselves to be reduced to beggars.
Newly elected Kiambu Woman Representative and former Kameme Fm presenter, Gathoni Wamuchomba also said Mps only want to be honoured for who they are.
Starehe Mp, Charles Njagua was however not in support of the legislators asking for a pay rise.
”Just to categorically state; I am not in support of a pay rise. Count me out.”

Kenyans look at MPs you queued in line from 4am to vote for. The first order of business is salary. No mention of the voters. SMH #MPsPay

MPs should earn ALMOST nothing for them to realize their JOB is to help IMPROVE the economy and not to be our bosses while we die #MPsPay

I watched Gladys Wanga speak on national TV that earning KSH600K is begging and just realized, Kenyans, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN #MPsPay

Gladys Wanga is an impostor. She isn't anything near reformist as she want us to believe. Typical loud mouth led by her belly. SHAME #MPsPay

Members of Parliament must take the pay cut. Those who think this not fair should immediately resign. We employed them, we can fire #MPsPay

SRC gazetted the pay cut recommendation for all state officials before the elections.
All state officials had their salaries slashed including that of the President and his deputy, a move Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed.
SRC’s goal is to bring the wage bill that stands at 52 per cent to sustainable levels of below 35 per cent.
