    Paul Pierce Salary

Paul Pierce earned approximately $198 million in NBA salary between 1998 and 2017.

At the peak of his career during the 2009-10 season, he earned nearly $19.8 million in salary while reportedly receiving an additional $3 million to $4 million annually from endorsement deals.

Pierce signed several lucrative contract extensions with the Boston Celtics after emerging as the franchise’s cornerstone. His rookie contract was worth approximately $6.3 million over four years before he agreed to a six-year extension valued at $79.3 million in 2002.

He later signed additional contracts worth $59.4 million in 2006 and $61.3 million in 2010 before finishing his career with shorter deals at the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers.

    Early Life

Paul Anthony Pierce was born on October 13, 1977, in Oakland, California, before moving to Inglewood with his family.

His basketball journey was far from straightforward. Pierce was cut from his high school’s varsity basketball team during both his freshman and sophomore years. Instead of giving up, he dedicated himself to improving his game through rigorous training and returned stronger.

By his senior season at Inglewood High School, Pierce had become one of California’s top high school players, averaging 27 points and 11 rebounds per game. His outstanding performances earned him selection to the prestigious 1995 McDonald’s All-American Game, cementing his reputation as one of the nation’s elite prospects.

    College Career

Pierce attended the University of Kansas, where he played for the Jayhawks from 1995 to 1998.

During his collegiate career, he developed into one of the best players in the country, winning Big 12 Conference MVP honors in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

His final season at Kansas proved particularly impressive, as he scored 777 points, ranking among the highest single-season scoring totals in the program’s history. Following his junior year, Pierce declared for the 1998 NBA Draft.

    NBA Career

The Boston Celtics selected Paul Pierce with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft.

Pierce made an immediate impact, steadily improving each season until he became one of the NBA’s premier scorers. By the 2001-02 campaign, he had led Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals while establishing himself as one of the league’s elite players.

In 2002, he led the NBA in total points scored, further solidifying his status as the Celtics’ franchise player.

His greatest success came during the 2007-08 season, when Boston acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to form the legendary “Big Three.” The trio transformed the Celtics into championship contenders, finishing with 66 regular-season victories before defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.

Pierce delivered an outstanding performance throughout the series, averaging 22 points per game and earning the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award after leading Boston to its first championship in more than two decades.

The Celtics returned to the NBA Finals in 2010 but fell to the Lakers in a memorable seven-game series.

Pierce continued adding to his impressive résumé over the following seasons, surpassing 20,000 career points and moving into second place on Boston’s all-time scoring list behind only John Havlicek.

After spending 15 seasons with the Celtics, Pierce was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013. He later played one season with the Washington Wizards before finishing his career with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Before retiring in 2017, Pierce had become one of only three players in Celtics history to score more than 20,000 points for the franchise, joining Larry Bird and John Havlicek.

    Broadcasting Career

Following his retirement, Pierce joined ESPN as an NBA studio analyst, appearing on programs including NBA Countdown and The Jump.

His broadcasting career with the network ended in 2021 after he posted a social media livestream that violated ESPN’s workplace standards, leading to his dismissal.

    Personal Life

Paul Pierce was previously married to Julie Landrum, and the couple have three children.

In September 2000, Pierce survived a life-threatening stabbing incident at a Boston nightclub after suffering multiple wounds to his face, neck and back. Remarkably, following surgery, he returned to play all 82 games during the next NBA season.

In January 2026, Pierce was named in a paternity lawsuit filed in California. The case sought genetic testing, custody arrangements and child support. At the time, the legal matter remained pending.

    Real Estate

Pierce has invested in luxury real estate during and after his NBA career.

In 2009, he purchased a mansion in a gated community in Calabasas, California, for $6.5 million. The approximately 16,000-square-foot property featured eight bedrooms, an infinity pool and a private half basketball court.

He listed the home for sale in 2020 with an asking price of $10.995 million before ultimately selling it in 2021 for $9.995 million, representing a significant gain on his original purchase.
