Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have arrested 14 suspects, including three serving police officers and several foreign nationals, in connection with a suspected counterfeit currency operation in Nairobi.

The suspects were arrested after detectives raided a warehouse in the Vision Plaza Industrial Area, where they recovered suspected counterfeit US currency, fake gold bars and materials believed to have been used in the production of counterfeit money.

The operation was conducted on October 1, 2026, following a complaint filed by a US national, Alkhalifi Ibrahim Hassan, at the JKIA Police Station.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the DCI said the suspects include Kenyan nationals and foreigners from Nigeria, Cameroon and Sudan.

The three police officers are attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) at Uhuru Camp.

The detectives searched the warehouse located behind Vision Plaza and arrested the suspects. Two of the police officers were allegedly armed with Beretta pistols, while the third was armed with a Chalbi pistol.

The suspects were identified as Anthony Oyieka Namani, a Nigerian; Soulemanou, a Cameroonian; Abbas Ibrahim Mohamed, a Sudanese; George Kinyanjui; Geofrey Omondi Juma; William Kimolo; Solomon Ndeda; Raphael Wayaya; Kevin Barasa; Erick Honla; Maureen Ogany; Corporal Joseph Otenyo Okimba; APC Douglas O. Odira; and APC Felix Oyawa Odhiambo.

During the raid, detectives recovered 31 sealed black pallets.

Further examination showed that three of the pallets contained 156 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit. The remaining pallets contained cement.

Detectives also recovered a plastic box containing 65 pieces of gold bars suspected to be fake.

Another box contained assorted chemicals suspected to be intended for the manufacture of counterfeit currency, while a separate box contained assorted papers printed with US dollar notes.

Other items recovered included a black bag containing 13 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit, assorted aluminium seals and seven cartons of UN blue plastic seals.

Two Kenya Revenue Authority reflector jackets, two empty suitcases, a green pallet-strapping roll, a padlock cutter and a hacksaw were also recovered.

The scene was processed by detectives, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.

The DCI said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected counterfeit currency operation and determine the respective roles of those arrested.

“The suspects are currently assisting detectives with ongoing investigations, with appropriate legal action to follow upon completion of the inquiry,” the DCI said.
