Police in Laikipia County have recovered 36 sheep that were allegedly stolen from a local farm in the Kiamariga area.
The livestock theft attempt was foiled after officers received a security alert and responded swiftly, tracking the stolen animals.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect fled after realising that police officers were pursuing him, abandoning the sheep.
The recovered livestock was escorted to Wiyumiririe Police Station, where the animals were positively identified and handed over to their owner.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect.
“The recovery underscores the critical role of timely information in enabling police to respond swiftly to and disrupt livestock theft,” the NPS said.
