And police shot to the air to disperse a group of thieves who had raided Delmonte Farm in Muranga to steal pineapples.
This was after the group tried to confront and stone a team of police officers who were patrolling the area to address cases of stealing of the products from the farm. A group had invaded the farm and stole the product on Sunday when police arrived. This forced some of them to abandon a motorcycle they were using and escape on foot.
It was then that a group emerged and tried to retrieve the motorcycle while confronting the police. Police responded by shooting to the air to disperse the group and managed to detain the motorcycle. A team has been retained to patrol the area and fight off gangs that raid the farm for the product.
This has seen dozens of suspects arrested and the stolen pineapples recovered.
