Only one in three Kenyans supports the broad-based government arrangement, according to a new opinion poll released by Infotrak Research and Consulting.

The Voice of the People Poll, conducted between June 22 and June 26, 2026, across all 47 counties, found that 33 percent of respondents support the political arrangement, while 37 percent oppose it.

The survey further showed that 27 percent of respondents neither support nor oppose the arrangement, while 3 percent said they were unsure.

According to the poll, those who support the broad-based government cited peace, political stability, reduced political tension, national unity and social cohesion as the main reasons for backing the arrangement.

Other reasons included improved development and service delivery, greater inclusivity, equitable distribution of resources across regions and communities, good leadership and enhanced government accountability.

On the other hand, respondents opposed to the arrangement cited poor governance and limited development, arguing that the alliance primarily serves the personal interests of politicians rather than the public.

Other reasons given for opposing the broad-based government included corruption, the weakening of the opposition, an unclear agenda behind the political union, tribalism and the increased cost of running government.

Despite the mixed opinions, the survey found that public awareness of the broad-based government remains high, with 79 percent of Kenyans saying they are aware of the political arrangement.

The broad-based government was formed following the political agreement between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga, with its proponents arguing that it promotes national unity and political stability, while critics contend that it weakens oversight and accountability by reducing the role of the opposition.
