Professor Laban Ayiro has been appointed the fourth Vice-Chancellor of the Daystar University, months after he was rejected at Eldoret-based Moi University.
In an internal memo, the university’s council chairman, Prof Henry Thairu said that Prof Ayiro had been picked from a list of 30 candidates who had applied for the position.
“The appointment of Prof Ayiro follows a rigorous process which started on December 5, 2018. In January 2019, the council received six potential candidates from a total of 30 applicants interviewed by the human resource consultant, Manpower Limited,” he said on Friday.
At Daystar he takes the position of Prof James Kombo, who was holding the post in acting capacity since June last year. Kombo took over from Prof Timothy Wachira who was unceremoniously ousted following chaos by students last year.

Before being appointed as the VC for Daystar, Ayiro had served Moi University, still as a VC but on acting capacity from September 2016 to March 2018.
In the much politicised selection for Moi’s VC, Prof Ayiro was the front-runner but was allegedly ‘rigged out’ of tribal basis.
