Banned Kenyan film Rafiki’s lead actress Samantha Mugatsia has been awarded the best actress for the roe she played in the film.
The film which was banned in Kenya after Kenya film classification board CEO Ezekiel Mutua said that it was promoting homsexuality which is illegal in Kenya.
KFCB had previously warned that anyone found in possession of the film would be in breach of the law.
The film which is based on the a prize-winning short story by Ugandan writer Monica Arac de Nyeko depicts a love story of two young women who meet and fall in love. The director of the film Wanuri shred the win of Mugasia describing how she was happy that her lead actress had won te award
