A 41-year-old bouncer was shot dead following an altercation with a reveler at an entertainment spot in Machakos Town.

The incident in the early hours of Christmas Day dawn police said.

The assailant identified as Kennedy Mutie is a licensed gun holder. He was arrested later on and detained for grilling, police said.

The bouncer identified as Dominic Munuve Mutisya, 41 died on the spot outside the Jamrest Bar and Restaurant.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Machakos Town Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Nzyoka Singi said they are holding the suspect.

He said the fatal confrontation stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and a patron at the establishment.

Witnesses said the altercation began after the bouncer allegedly used excessive force to eject a woman who was in the company of the suspect.

The move reportedly angered the man, who then drew a firearm and shot the bouncer four times, killing him on the spot.

Police officers who responded to the scene recovered a pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition. An extra magazine of the Taurus pistol with 16 bullets was recovered from the suspect’s four wheel drive car, police said.

Three spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Police said the man was arrested together with the woman involved as detectives intensify investigations into the incident.

This is after they escaped the scene and later surrendered at the local police station.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem examination as police continue to piece together the events leading to the fatal shooting.

The police said they were investigating murder.

This is the latest incident to involve a licensed firearm holder. There are about 15,000 licensed firearm holders in the country. The licensed firearm holders go through a rigorous background screening before they are allowed to own the weapons. A number of them have been charged with misuse of the weapons.

And five suspects were arrested for murder after they lynched a police officer in an attack. Constable David Kinyua succumbed to the injuries in hospital following the attack on December 23, police said.

It emerged the officer had strayed into a home where the owner who is plumber raised an alarm alerting a mob who beat him up despite them knowing him as a police officer.

They tied him to a motorcycle before they dragged him on a rough road. He died later on.

Police said they had recovered the motorcycle used in the mission even as they search for more suspects.

The body is lying at a local mortuary pending an autopsy.
