President William Ruto has appointed former Bura MP Ali Wario as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Council for Population and Development Board.
The appointment was announced through a gazette notice dated October 24, 2025. In the same notice, the President revoked the appointment of Julius Waweru Karangi.
Ali Wario, born on May 5, 1970, in Bura, previously served as a Member of Parliament in both the 9th and 11th Parliaments. He first joined politics in 2002 and won the Bura Constituency seat on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket.
During his political career, Wario served as Assistant Minister for Home Affairs between 2003 and 2006 before being redeployed as Assistant Minister for Special Programmes. He lost his parliamentary seat in 2007 to Nassir Nuh Abdi but reclaimed it in 2013 under The National Alliance (TNA) party within the Jubilee Coalition. In the 11th Parliament, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Public Works, Roads, and Transport.
Outside politics, Wario has held several leadership roles. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Training Corporation and chaired the Boards of the Kenya Livestock Marketing Council and the African Union Special Task Force on Pastoral Policy Initiative.
He also served as chairman of Cofi SACCO between 2009 and 2012 and previously worked with the Kenya Red Cross from 1993 to 1996.
Wario completed his KCSE at Tarasaa High School in 1990 and later earned a Diploma in Social Work from the University of Nairobi in 2010. He has since pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
