President William Ruto has appointed former Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.

According to a gazette notice dated May 23, 2025, Samboja will serve in the role for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1)(a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint— Granton Samboja to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd May, 2025,” the notice stated.

Samboja served as the second governor of Taita Taveta County from 2017 to 2022. Before entering politics, he worked in the media industry. After completing his studies at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), he joined Royal Media Services and later founded Milele FM in 2008. He also owns Anguo FM, a radio station that broadcasts in the Taita language.

In 2021, Samboja was elected chairman of the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP), an economic bloc bringing together six counties at the Coast — Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta.

He sought re-election in the 2022 general election but was defeated by Andrew Mwadime, popularly known as “Wakujaa.” Samboja’s term ended on August 25, 2022, when Wakujaa was sworn in as the third governor of Taita Taveta County.

In the same gazette notice, President Ruto also appointed John Mwangi Karondo as a member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee. He will serve for three years.
