    Ruto, CSs make appointments to state corporations, universities and agencies

    President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have announced a raft of appointments and reappointments to the boards of state corporations, regulatory authorities, public universities and national polytechnics.

    In a Gazette Notice dated June 26, 2026, President Ruto appointed former Meru Governor and former Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Competition Authority of Kenya for a three-year term.

    The appointment, which takes effect from June 26, 2026, revokes the appointment of Charles Mahinda, who previously served as the board chairperson.

    The President also reappointed Joseph M’eruaki M’uthari as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) and Stanley Kiptis as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), both for fresh three-year terms.

    National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also announced several appointments to financial sector institutions.

    Mbadi reappointed Nicholas Kamuya Ng’arua as a member of the Board of Directors of the Capital Markets Authority.

    He further reappointed Mohamed Hashi, Ambrose Makanga Ngari, Prof. Joel K. Chemiron and Immaculate Shamalla as members of the Board of the Insurance Regulatory Authority.

    The Treasury CS also reappointed Dr. Boaz Cheluget as a member of the Board of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) and Parveen Sigey as a board member of the National Council for Population and Development.

    Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya reappointed Freda Moraa Nyakundi and Methuselah Rono as members of the Board of Directors of the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).

    Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya reappointed Raphael Letimalo as a member of the Kenya Film Classification Board.

    He also reappointed Naomi Gechemba, Ilhaam Ahmed Taisr and Hillary Muthama Catherine Githogoti as members of the Board of the Kenya Film Commission.

    East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul reappointed Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Anthony Maritim Rop, Musa Ibrahim Dimbil, Lenaiyara Lenana Nixon and Daud Yakub Guliye as members of the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority.

    Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui reappointed Khadija W. Mustafa, Col. (Rtd.) Khalif Aden Shabell and Rebecca Kimetto as members of the Board of the Kenya Investment Authority.

    He also appointed Abdullahi Hussein Ali and Florence Njahira as new members of the board.

    Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano reappointed Eric M. Kiniti and Alex Cleland Atingo as members of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority.

    She further appointed Joel Kiplimo Chemirmir and Serah Katusya as members of the authority’s board.

    Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe reappointed Prof. Albert Kimutai as a member of the Board of the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.

    Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba also made a series of appointments and reappointments to councils of public universities and national polytechnics.

    At Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Ogamba reappointed David Morang’a Oyugi, Joan Atieno Odawa, Amb. Ambeyi Ligavo, Isaac Kiprop Chebon and Dr. Willis Gesami Omwoyo as council members.

    He also reappointed Esther Wanjiru to the Council of South Eastern Kenya University.

    At Maasai Mara University, Prof. Geoffrey M. Ole Maloiy was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the council, while Millicent Leila Lenguri was appointed a member. Dr. Susan Chebet, Elizabeth Ayoo, Dickson Malanga Shikanga and Agnes Busienei were reappointed as council members.

    Joel Yego and Velma Mudanyi Mudasa were reappointed to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Council.

    For Pwani University, Mohamed Salim Badamana was reappointed Non-Executive Chairperson, while Amb. Benjamin Mweri, Sang Kiptanui David, Fatma Mohammed and Japhet Mvoyi Ria were reappointed as members.

    At Kisii University, Prof. Sara Ruto was reappointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the council, with Samson Muchelule reappointed as a member.

    Ogamba also reappointed Prof. Peter Salim Ndemo as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Turkana University Council, alongside Jared Oyier, Shadrack Kemoi Lemuywara, Dr. Dominic Kimutai Biwott and Carolyne Ekwom as members.

    At Chuka University, Prof. David T. K. Serem was reappointed Non-Executive Chairperson, while Crispus Micheni Ndeke, Linet Kwamboka Maganda, Samuel Gacheru Gitonga, Zephania Rwanda Mbaka and Margaret Makhungu were reappointed as council members.

    The Education CS also announced appointments to several national polytechnic councils.

    Charles Aondo Kimwoni was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Nairobi National Polytechnic Council, alongside Stephen Kimaiyo Masacha, Rose Mwaura, Brenda Oliwa and Peter Mwangi Karanja as members.

    Esther Kalunda Ndile was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Taita Taveta National Polytechnic Council, while Nahashon Ndaretoi Mesula, Anne Aluku and Justin Mabati were appointed members.

    At Michuki National Polytechnic, Benson Ngari Kamau was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson, with Sheila M. Nyamweya, Lydia Muthoni Miano, Christine Jane Njeri Macharia and Philiph Kiplagat Mitei appointed as members of the council.
