President William Ruto has officially handed over 1,080 completed houses under the Affordable Housing Program at the New Mukuru Housing Estate in Nairobi.

The homes are part of a larger project that will deliver 13,248 housing units, making it the biggest real estate development in Kenya’s history.

“This is the most important day in my political journey. Today, we are not just giving people houses — we are giving them homes,” President Ruto said during the handover ceremony.

He described the Mukuru project as a major step forward in the government’s plan to provide decent and affordable housing to Kenyans, especially those with low incomes.

“Mukuru is just the beginning. We have more than 200 similar projects happening across the country, creating jobs for over 200,000 young people. We are committed to making bold decisions that will transform Kenya forever. This is Kenya’s Bottom-Up moment,” he added.

The President officially commissioned Phase 1 of Lot 1 of the New Mukuru Housing Estate, which includes over 5,600 bedsitter units. Currently under construction are 3,024 one-bedroom units in Lot 2 and 4,608 two-bedroom units in Lot 3.

The houses are priced between Sh840,000 and Sh5.76 million, depending on size and location.

Kenyans who wish to buy the homes must have an account on the government’s eCitizen platform. Registration can be done through the Boma Yangu website or by dialing *832# on a mobile phone. Applicants are required to provide personal details and housing preferences, which are verified by relevant government agencies.

So far, more than 300,000 people have applied to own homes under the program.
