President William Ruto has sent his condolences to Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah following the death of his father, Isaac Ichungwah Ngugi, who passed away at the age of 105.
In a post on social media, President Ruto described Mzee Ngugi as an industrious and astute businessman, and one of the pioneers behind the founding of Kikuyu Town.
“Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on,” Ruto wrote.
According to the Office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ngugi died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, early Thursday morning.
He had been hospitalized at Karen Hospital for a week before being discharged last week.
The family has begun funeral arrangements. Members of the public may pay their condolences starting Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Further details, including the date for the requiem mass and interment, will be communicated later.
At 105 years old, Ngugi was among the oldest people in the country.
Earlier in June 2025, MP Ichung’wah had raised concern that goons planned to attack his elderly father during the Gen Z protests.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also sent his condolences to the family.
“Deep condolences to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and his family on the loss of their father, Mzee Ichungwah Senior. May God give the entire family comfort, may they find peace during this difficult moment,” Kindiki said.
