    Ryan McMahon, nicknamed “Ry Mac,” is a professional baseball infielder for the Colorado Rockies.

    He was drafted by the Rockies in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft after playing baseball and football in high school.

    McMahon made his MLB debut in August 2017 and quickly established himself, hitting his first home run in June 2018 and a walk-off home run in August of the same year.

    In 2019, he became the Rockies’ primary second baseman. He has continued to be a key player for the team and was named an MLB All-Star in 2024.

    Demonstrating his commitment to the team, McMahon signed a six-year, $70 million contract extension with the Rockies in March 2022.

    Ryan has one sister, Meghan, about whom specific public details are scarce.

    He also has a younger brother, TJ McMahon, who has carved his own path in athletics as a football player, notably serving as the starting quarterback for Rice University.

    Career

    After being drafted by the Rockies in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft, McMahon chose to forgo his commitment to play college baseball at the University of Southern California, opting instead to sign with the team for a signing bonus of $1,327,600.

    McMahon’s professional journey began in 2013 with the Grand Junction Rockies, where he showcased his talent by hitting .321 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in 59 games.

    Continuing his ascent through the minor league system, he played for the Asheville Tourists in 2014, posting a .282 average with 18 home runs and 102 RBIs.

    In 2015, he continued to impress with the Modesto Nuts, slashing .300/.372/.520 with 18 home runs and 75 RBIs.

    His 2016 season with the Hartford Yard Goats saw him bat .242 with 12 home runs and 75 RBIs. He started 2017 with Hartford and was promoted to the Albuquerque Isotopes in June of that year.

    His performance earned him a call-up to the major leagues, and he made his MLB debut for the Rockies on August 11, 2017.

    By 2019, McMahon had solidified his role with the Rockies, serving as their primary second baseman.

    In a significant commitment to the team, he signed a six-year, $70 million contract extension on March 21, 2022.

    His contributions to the team were further recognized in 2024 when he was named an MLB All-Star.

    Accolades

    McMahon has garnered several awards and accolades throughout his baseball career, showcasing his talent both in the minor and major leagues.

    Most recently, he was named an MLB All-Star in 2024.

    McMahon has also been a finalist for the Rawlings NL Gold Glove Award at third base multiple times since 2021, recognizing his defensive prowess.

    In 2021, he received the MLBPAA Rockies Heart and Hustle Award.

    His minor league achievements include being named the MiLB.com Fans’ Choice for Best Offensive Player in 2017 while playing for the Albuquerque Isotopes.

    He also earned selections to the Baseball America Triple-A All-Star team and the Futures Game that same year.

    His strong performance with the Isotopes also led to being named the PCL Player of the Month in June 2017, as well as being awarded PCL Player of the Week twice.

    Prior to that, he was named the EAS Player of the Month in April 2017 while with the Hartford Yard Goats and an EAS Player of the Week.

    In 2016 he was named an AFL Rising Star.

    His earlier career highlights include being named a Baseball America High Class A All-Star and a Baseball America Minor League All-Star in 2015 with the Modesto Nuts, as well as CAL Post-Season and Mid-Season All-Star honors.

    He also earned Baseball America Low Class A All-Star and SAL Post-Season and Mid-Season All-Star selections in 2014 while with the Asheville Tourists, in addition to a SAL Player of the Week award.

    In his early career, he was named a Topps Short-Season/Rookie All-Star in 2013 with the Grand Junction Rockies and also earned a PIO Player of the Week award.

    Furthermore, McMahon was recognized as a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in both 2013 and 2017 with the Colorado Rockies.
