    Safaricom and Qualcomm Launch Countrywide “3G Experiential Tour”

    Safaricom and Quacomm announced today the launch of an “experiential tour” for its 3G products in Kenya. The tour will run from April 14th to June 31 and will users a chance to test-drive 3G services, experience rich content and sample the speedy internet bouquet which is accessible through Safaricom 3G enabled smartphones, PCs and laptops.

    Safaricom and Qualcomm unveiled two vans which have been custom-built as the “Mobile Experience Centres.” The vans have been fitted with 32-inch flat screen TVs, laptop with dongles and smartphones (from Samsung, HTC, BlackBerry, Huawei, Sony Ericsson and others) for users to try out the 3G services and choose which phone or laptop gives them the best experience.

    There will also be live demos of smartphones which uses Qualcomm’s snapdragon processors, enabling users to have different experience while using social media, shooting HD video, browsing web apps or using native apps. The tour van will visit Nairobi, Mombasa, Thika, Nakuru and Kisumu among other towns.

    The vans will mostly visit locations with very heavy human traffic like market centres, malls, sporting and public events, colleges and universities.

    Qualcomm Director of East Africa Operations, Billy Owino, said that Qualcomm’s processors are unique in that they ensure that users charge less and use more hence optimising their experience on the devices. Qualcomm is also looking to partner with operators like Safaricom to help them optimise their 3G network delivery by focusing on the betterment of services on high demand by the users.
