    Galaxy Tab 2.0

Samsung Electronics has launched a low-cost version of the 7″ Galaxy Tablet . The Galaxy Tab 2.0 will be the first of Samsung’s tablets to ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and its own Touchwiz user interface, Samsung said on Monday.

    The Galaxy Tab 2.0 specs:

    • Powered by a 1-GHz dual-core processor
    • Outfitted with 8, 16, or 32GB flash memory and 1GB of RAM. Includes also a microSD slot
    • 4,000 mAh li-ion battery
    • Front (VGA) and rear (3MP) cameras
    • 3.5mm headphone jack
    • Bluetooth 3.0 and USB 2.0
    • 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi (with Wi-Fi direct) and a GPS (on the 3G version of the product)

The 3G version of the Galaxy Tab 2.0 uses the HSPA+ network.

The tablet will cost about €270 (US$350) before taxation and operator subsidies and it will start shipping in March, according to a statement from Samsung in Sweden.

Samsung looks to attract a larger client base with a lower pricing of its tablets. Sales of Android-based tablets more than tripled in late 2011, but Apple still dominates the market, according to a recent report from Strategy Analytics. The Android camp had a 39.1% share of global tablet shipments by late 2011, a rise from 29% a year earlier. Apple’s tablet shipment share dropped from 68.2 percent to 57.6 percent, according to Strategy Analytics.
