The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has confirmed the arrest of a man posing as a lawyer in Kiambu County.

The suspect, identified as Ian Muga, was arrested on Friday, February 14, 2025, and booked at Runda Police Station for further investigation.

Muga is claimed to be one of Sarah Kabu’s lawyers.

According to an LSK statement, Muga was apprehended during an inspection exercise conducted by the Practice Standards Directorate and the Professional Standards and Ethics (PSE) Committee.

The operation aimed to monitor compliance with legal practice regulations and identify individuals masquerading as advocates.

“In Kiambu, at Ciata Mall, the LSK team, with the support of officials from the Kiambu Chapter, conducted a sting operation and caught the suspect, Mr. Ian Muga, offering legal services from the offices of Mwenda Njagi and Company Advocates. The suspect was arrested and booked at Runda Police Station for further investigation,” the statement read.

LSK has urged the public to be cautious and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be lawyers. Members of the public can confirm an advocate’s admission and practice status through the LSK online portal at https://online.lsk.or.ke. Reports of suspected masqueraders can also be submitted to the Law Society of Kenya via the Practice Standards Directorate at practicestandards@lsk.or.ke.
