Nandi Senator Samson Cherarkey has raised concerns over increasing cases of hooliganism in county offices across the country.

His remarks follow a recent incident where gangs stormed the office of the Eldoret City Manager, forcibly evicted him, and harassed other staff members in the presence of county security officers in Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Cherarkey requested a statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations regarding the status of investigations into the incident.

He questioned why the perpetrators had not been arrested despite the act being caught on camera.

“The incident happened in the full glare of the cameras. What actions have been taken by the police against those alleged to be the sponsors of this hooliganism?” he asked.

The senator also urged the committee, chaired by Senator Fatuma Dullo, to provide details on suspects apprehended and prosecuted for similar incidents in Nairobi, Isiolo, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu counties.

Additionally, he sought an explanation for the actions taken against Nairobi County officers responsible for dumping garbage at the entrance of Stima Plaza over unpaid bills.

Senator Seeks Answers on Nandi County Health Crisis

Senator Cherarkey also sought a statement from the Standing Committee on Health regarding the state of Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and other health facilities in Nandi County.

He called on the committee to provide details on drug supplies, maintenance of hospital equipment, and overall facility conditions.

“The Health Committee must tell this House when the county government last procured hospital equipment and provide details on general maintenance work in wards and other service areas,” he said.

He further tasked the committee, chaired by Senator Jackson Mandago, to explain the status of the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the Return-to-Work Formula between healthcare workers and the county government. He also demanded answers on why the county government had failed to harmonize promotions for doctors, nurses, and other medical staff.
