Police have arrested seven suspects in three separate incidents across the country after recovering large quantities of bhang, uncustomed goods and other stolen items.

In Kakamega Town, five suspects were arrested on Friday, August 16, during a targeted security operation by officers in the Western Region, acting on public intelligence reports.

Police recovered approximately 1,412 rolls of bhang, uncustomed cigarettes including 16 packets of Oris, 25 packets of Milano and one packet of Supermatch, as well as suspected stolen property including three 6kg gas cylinders and assorted household goods.

“All suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday, 18 August 2025,” a police statement said, adding that the National Police Service remains committed to fighting narcotics and related crimes.

On the same day, officers in Mariakani, Kilifi County, intercepted a trailer along the Mariakani–Mazeras Road and seized six sacks containing about 6,000 large rolls of cannabis. Police arrested the driver and took him to Coast Regional Police Headquarters for processing and court arraignment.

In Isiolo County, police from Garbatulla Police Station recovered uncustomed goods during an early-morning patrol along the LAPSSET corridor on August 16. Officers intercepted a vehicle along the Kinna–Garbatulla road that tried to escape police but crashed into a ditch. A search of the vehicle revealed 52 bags of sugar (25kg each) and nine cartons of spaghetti. One suspect was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.

The National Police Service thanked members of the public for sharing intelligence and reiterated its commitment to ending smuggling, drug trafficking and economic crimes across the country.
