In the afternoon blast, reports indicate that almost all victims were civilians in Filsan Restaurant or passersby.
Several vehicles parked at the roadside were also destroyed during the incident.
“The blast destroyed a restaurant and killed many who were inside and outside the restaurant. The death toll may rise,” Police Major Mohamed Hussein told the media.
According to an eye witness account, the explosion was from a car parked on the road side.

On Wednesday night the commander of the Mogadishu Police forces narrowly escaped another explosion which was targeted at his convoy.
Mogadishu is regularly targeted by the Al-Shabaab, a militia group affiliated to Al-Qaeda, who have been battling for over a decade to topple President Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed’s government.
