Ugandan international Shafik Batambuze and Kenneth Muguna are poised to join Gor Mahia after completing contract talks, the club’s CEO Lordvick Aduda has confirmed.

“We are only waiting for the January transfer window to open so that we can register them,” Aduda told Kahawa Tungu.

Shafik is a free agent after receiving his release letter from Tanzania’s Singinda United where he last plied his trade, according to Aduda.

“Shafik was in Kenya but has since returned to Uganda. He’s expected back next week.”

The 24-year-old left back moved to Singida after guiding Tusker to the 2016 Kenyan Premier League title.

He has also played for Muhoroni Youth, Western Stima, Sofapaka in the Kenya’s topflight.

Shafik’s signing will be purposely to fill the void left by fellow Ugandan Godfrey Walusimbi, who recently left K’Ogalo for South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.

Gor were also rumored to be interested in Rayon Sports’ Eric Rutanga as Walusimbi’s successor but as it stands the move may not happen in the near future.

    Muguna Return

Muguna is certain to make a return to Gor Mahia after leaving for greener pastures in Albania with KF Tirana end of last season.

“Everything is in top gear. We already have his release letter from Tirana and we have agreed on all details,” Aduda said.

The 22-year-old midfielder moved to Tirana together with former Gor skipper Musa Mohammed but both ended their stay with the Albanian side citing personal issues.

Muguna first joined the 1987 Caf Winners’ Cup holders from Western Stima in 2016 and was a mainstay in Gor’s 2017 KPL triumph.

Musa has since settled at Zambian Super League side Nkana FC and recently captained Harambee Stars to a historic 1-0 win over Ghana in the Afcon 2019 qualifiers.

Gor will on Sunday be crowned KPL champions for a record 17th time at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium.
