Sharon Otieno’s father has for the first time spoken out since his 26 year old daughter was found dead in a thicket in Oyugis after being abducted by people close to her boyfriend, Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Speaking to the Nation, an emotional Douglas Otieno said that he is yet to come to terms with the loss of his daughter, who she described as a jewel.

Otieno and his wife Melida Auma traveled overnight to Nairobi for court proceedings at Milimani Law Courts. The bereaved parents watched as the man who their daughter “loved” denied charges of aiding and abetting Sharon’s murder.

“This is a devil’s doing. So many things ran into my mind when I saw the governor in front of me. I felt evil things inside me and only asked God to take control of me,” Mr Otieno said.

He also disclosed that he sometimes pays his daughter a visit at the morgue because “it satisfies my heart to just see it.”

“There, I often ask the attendants to bring her body to me. I sit beside it, touching and observing it,” he said.

Mr Otieno also noted that seeing the governor in court gave him hope that his daughter’s killers will finally face the full force of the law.

“I felt comforted that as a family, we will find justice for my daughter and her unborn child. Seeing the governor behind the dock gave some assurance that Sharon’s killers will face the law,” he continued.

On Monday, police nabbed John Chacha, another one of Obado’s bodyguards at a restaurant near Milimani Law courts.

According to Ms Auma, the seven month pregnant daughter loved the governor who she said betrayed her.

During the court proceedings, Ms Auma could not hold back her tears as she came face to face with the man accused of having a hand in the brutal killing of her daughter.

“I felt tormented and wondered how he could just be involved in the brutal killing of my beloved child. I asked myself endless questions on just how he could have betrayed my child who loved him a lot,” she said.

Obado will on Tuesday appear in court for his bail hearing after Judge Jesse Lessit ordered that he is remanded at Industrial Area Prison.
