Police in Imenti East Sub-County, Meru County, are investigating an electrocution incident in which an unidentified man died while allegedly attempting to break into a residential property.

A caretaker at a residence discovered the body inside a store within the compound.

The caretaker reported that he woke up at around 5:00 a.m. on March 28 and noticed that the store had been broken into.
Upon checking inside, he found the lifeless body of an unknown adult male holding a pair of pliers.

Police officers, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Imenti East, visited the scene and established that the deceased had gained access to the compound by breaking the padlock on the main gate.

Investigations indicate that the intruder dismantled the main electrical meter box after disconnecting it, before breaking into the wooden store. It is believed that he was electrocuted while handling electrical components using the pliers.

Several items suspected to have been used in the break-in were recovered at the scene, including an Itel mobile phone, an axe, a fork jembe, a twisted iron bar, and a straight metal bar.

The scene was processed, and the body—found with no visible external injuries—was moved to Meru Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Chiakariga Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County, are investigating a suspected drowning incident after a man’s body was found floating in a river.

According to police, a resident of Kianamuthi Village alerted authorities after spotting a lifeless body in River Kiriria.

Police established that the body was that of 47-year-old George Peter Mutiria Kithure, a casual labourer from Kamujwa Village.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had gone missing the previous day after heading to the riverbank to cut Napier grass but failed to return home.

Police further noted that Kithure had a history of epilepsy, which is suspected to have contributed to the incident.

The body was retrieved from the river with no visible physical injuries. The scene was processed, and the remains were moved to Marimanti Level IV Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
