Nairobi is getting all the right attention from various vendors and manufacturers of IT products. In fact, it is overwhelming. Samsung was in town this week and just when we thought that was enough for one week, TechCom landed. TechCom is unique in that it focuses on an area which has been ignored. Techcom, one of the leading IT Peripherals and Consumer Electronics brands, announced its entry into the Kenyan mobile handset market .
The company is focusing on the users interested in the users who switch SIM now and then. The firm launched various dual-SIM handsets into the Kenyan market. This might just sort out the operator wars being witnessed with sabotage being voiced from all corners. TechCom also promised to bring Android based devices in Kenya by January 2012. The company is also focused in the tablet market and said that they are only now engaging the mass market. Surely Nokia, Samsung, RIM, Motorola and LG are not going to get it easy. TechCom promises faster customer service and one year’s warranty on all the phoness. TechCom also promised that the turnaround time will be sorted out and took a swipe at Nokia and other big firms which take long to serve clients. Service centres will also be opened countrywide.

The brand is entering Kenya with its presence in major cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisimu. We have earmarked US$ 1 million over the next three years for brand building purpose. Through over 20 Sub-distributors and almost 500 retailers in Kenya, Techcom will sell phones in the range of KSH 2400 to KSH 4900 currently. With a pan-Kenya presence of our offices and distributors, we hope to penetrate the Kenyan mobile market extensively in the next six months.”
The company displayed seven entry and mid level handsets – comprising of feature rich & competitively priced dual SIM GSM handsets. The handsets have been modeled keeping in mind the youth in urban and semi-urban cities. Techcom unveiled its seven models namely, T21, T31, T33,T35, T51, T55, and T60 respectively in Kenya. The new mobile handsets are dual SIM (GSM+GSM) entry and mid-level handsets. The prices will be surely competetive.
The grey market handsets supports upto 4GB external memory if double SD is used or 2GB for single memory slot. Rafiq Miyanji, Managing Director of Computer Planet Ltd., Kenya was present to represent Computer Planet which is the local distributor and technical support centre.
