Members of the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly on Tuesday impeached the assembly’s deputy speaker, Ms Susan Ngugi.

The MCAs defied a court order issued yesterday against the impeachment of Ms Ngugi.

The Marimanti ward Member of the County Assembly was impeached after a vote of no confidence where two supported her ouster while two objected.

This followed a series of allegations made by the MCAs against her of using unprofessional language while addressing them in the house.

The MCA was also faulted for walking out of the House during bursary committee proceedings.

She allegedly stormed out of the chambers on December 12, 2018 as the list of assembly business committee nominees was being tabled.

She is stated to have protested over the composition of the list.

The ousted deputy speaker had also been accused of leaking a discussion of house business committee to the public and the press.

However, speaking to journalists on the allegations, Ms Ngugi dismissed the accusations and claimed that the executive was championing her removal due to her stand in the fight against rampant corruption in the county.

“I am surprised that an impeachment motion (against me) has emerged three months after the sittings,” she posed.

The impeachment motion had been tabled at the assembly last week by Majority Leader Godfrey Murithi.
