Police in Soy Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, are investigating a break-in incident at Al Huda Mosque in Kamwaura village.

The incident was reported at Kuinet Police Station on Tuesday by the mosque’s imam who discovered the theft upon arriving for morning prayers.

According to the police, unknown individuals broke into the mosque and stole several items, including an amplifier and two speakers from the prayer hall.

The suspects also removed 20 water taps from the ablution area and made away with a bicycle.

Police said they had launched investigations into the incident, and efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible are ongoing.

Such incidents where thugs target houses of prayer have been on the rise. The gangs target electronic goods for stealing. Police say statistics show at least one case is reported weekly where churches are targeted and broken into for electronic goods.

The incidents are under probe for justice, police said on Wednesday.

Investigations showed those behind the incidents are locals or pray at the affected institutions.

Police have been staging operations targeting shops handling the electronics as part of the efforts to trace and recover the stolen equipment.

The investigators encouraged managers of the institutions to always report the incidents to help in managing the crimes.

Meanwhile, police in Kuria, Migori County are looking for gunmen who raided a homestead and beat up the owner while demanding a copy of his land title deed.

The gunmen also shot to the air twice as they escaped the scene, witnesses and police said.

The four men were armed with an AK47 rifle and other weapons.

They visited the home of a 31-year-old man and demanded the title deed while assaulting him as he raised an alarm.

Neighbours who responded had to scamper for their safety after the men shot to the air as they left the scene without the documents in the May 5 night incident.

Police said they are pursuing the gang on the prowl in the area.

The area has been experiencing a spike in armed crime amid efforts to address the same.
