Police in Kisii South Sub-County are investigating the discovery of a decomposed human leg under Iyabe River Bridge.

The human remains were discovered on Sunday, August 30.

Police officers from Kerina Police Station, visited the scene and found a decomposed human leg believed to be that of an adult.

The leg, severed between the shin and thigh, had been placed on a yellow biohazard bag. Investigators suspect it may have been severed using a sharp object.

The scene was processed and documented before the body part was removed and taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Police are yet to establish the identity of the deceased or determine where and when the person died.

Investigations are ongoing, with officers awaiting identification and postmortem examination to establish further details surrounding the discovery.

Elsewhere, police in Masaba South Sub-County, Kisii County, are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted after being accused of attempting to steal a nylon sheet used to cover bricks.

Hezron Bangi was reportedly assaulted on Sunday, August 30, and was later found dead inside his bedroom at about 9.30am.

A witness rushed to the scene and found about six people lying unconscious.

Police said it was alleged that the deceased had attempted to steal a nylon sheet which was being used to cover bricks, before he was caught and assaulted.

A relative reportedly took his uncle on a motorcycle to his house, where he was later found dead. Police visited the scene and found the deceased’s body lying on the floor of his bedroom.

The body had visible injuries on the head, between the fingers of the right hand, on both legs and on the back.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to St Catherine Ichuni Mission Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

The suspects are currently at large, with police efforts underway to trace and arrest them as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death continue.
