Police in Nairobi have arrested two suspects and destroyed about 4,000 litres of illicit brew known as kangara during an operation in Soweto.

In a statement on Sunday, the National Police Service said officers carried out the crackdown as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal alcohol production in the area.

During the operation, police discovered the large quantity of the brew alongside brewing equipment used in its preparation. The apparatus was also destroyed on site.

The two suspects arrested during the raid are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court on related charges.

Police said the fight against illicit alcohol remains a key priority, adding that similar operations will continue across Nairobi and other parts of the country.

Members of the public were also urged to report any suspected illegal brewing activities that may threaten public safety and community well-being.
