Two spectators died from cardiac arrests at the ATP Finals on Monday, the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP) and the ATP have confirmed.

The individuals were aged 70 and 78 and the incidents occurred at different times at the Inalpi Arena in Turin.

“The FITP and the ATP express their deepest condolences following the tragic passing of two spectators yesterday during the ATP Finals in Turin,” a joint statement said.

“On-site medical and emergency personnel responded immediately, providing all possible assistance.

“Despite prompt intervention and subsequent transfer to hospital, unfortunately, both sadly passed away.”

The first singles match of the day between Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti and American Taylor Fritz was delayed, with an announcement confirming there was a medical situation in the crowd.

Italian fans turned out in large numbers to support Musetti and defending champion Jannik Sinner on Monday.

The ATP Finals are taking place until 16 November at the 12,000-capacity venue.
