Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga was on Friday airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment following her admission to hospital on Thursday.

According to Uganda’s media outlets, the speaker was airlifted to Nairobi in a bid to seek a second professional opinion after she had been admitted to the ICU.

A memo sent to Ugandan legislators from Busoga region noted: “Folks, a second professional opinion is being sought in Nairobi about madam speaker. She arrived safely and stable. Thanks for your prayers.”

The speaker, who was initially hospitalized because of fatigue, is claimed to be out of danger.

In an official statement issued by the Speaker’s Principal Private Secretary, Sam Obbo, Ms Kadaga was initially under the care of doctors at Nakasero Hospital.

“The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, is currently being managed by doctors at Nakasero Hospital, over fatigue. She was admitted yesterday soon after her return from a10-day hectic working tour to Morocco and the United States of America,” the statement read.

He went ahead to state: “While abroad, she steadfastly advocated for better policies for women and children, in Uganda and across the globe. Due to the hectic work schedule, fatigue and jet lag, she has had to be admitted in the hospital.”

Upon the knowledge that she had been admitted, Kadaga was paid a visit by The Kyabazinga of Busoga (the King of Busoga) and William Gabula Nadiope IV.

It is also reported that President Museveni paid the Speaker a visit before she was airlifted to Nairobi.
