Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed her life is in danger, just moments after honouring a summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, April 7.
Speaking to the media after the session, Wamuchomba made serious allegations against the government, accusing it of using mercenaries to intimidate her.
She claimed her life is under threat due to her outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.
“There are mercenaries hired by politicians to intimidate, kill, and abduct,” she said. “I want to announce here that my life is in danger. If anything happens to me, we know who is behind it.”
Wamuchomba said she received the summons from unknown contacts and was surprised when Kiambu County Police Commander Doris Mugambi told her the summons did not originate from the police. She questioned the legitimacy of the process and said it appeared politically motivated.
She further accused her predecessor of attempting to frustrate her through frequent visits to her office, which she claimed were meant to intimidate her and her staff.
She also revealed that her official bodyguard had been withdrawn, leaving her feeling vulnerable.
“The government does not respect women. If it did, I would have at least ten bodyguards. I only had one, and they withdrew him just like they did to the Deputy President’s security,” she said. “Then, if anything happens, they will claim it’s political warfare. I want to be clear—my life is in danger.”
Wamuchomba has called on the government to reinstate her security detail and provide at least four bodyguards for her protection.
She also alleged that the call summoning her was timed to block her from accessing Githunguri Stadium ahead of President Ruto’s visit to the region.
The president later toured several projects in Kiambu County, including the Mau Mau Roads in Nyanduma, Lari, and the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park.
