National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has confirmed receiving President William Ruto’s list of nominees for various Principal Secretary positions, clearing the way for parliamentary approval hearings.

In a gazette notice dated March 20, 2025, President Ruto submitted 14 names to the National Assembly for vetting. Speaking on Wednesday, March 26, Wetang’ula directed the relevant parliamentary committees to begin the approval process.

The decision follows a resolution made on February 13, 2025, allowing the Speaker to forward nominees for State or public office appointments to the relevant committees, even when Parliament is in recess.

Wetang’ula emphasized that the committees have until Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to complete the vetting process and submit their reports. He also instructed the Clerk of the National Assembly to notify all MPs and facilitate the hearings.

“The respective Committees must immediately begin the approval process and table their reports by April 22, 2025, to allow the House to consider the nominees within the required timelines,” Wetang’ula stated.

Among those nominated are Jane Imbunya for Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Regina Akoth Ombam for the State Department for Trade, and Cyrell Odede for the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management.

The approval process will now move to the committees, where the nominees will be vetted before a final decision is made by Parliament.
