Born Marcus Lakee Edwards, Lil’ Keke emerged from Houston’s underground rap scene in the early 1990s. He gained recognition through his association with DJ Screw and as a founding member of the Screwed Up Click—a group that helped define the iconic chopped-and-screwed sound.

His debut album, Don’t Mess wit Texas (1997), introduced his breakout anthem “Southside,” a track that became a Houston street classic and cemented his local legend status.
