A new Pan-African television series showcasing Africa’s wildlife and the people working to protect it has premiered in Kenya, bringing stories of conservation from across the continent to local audiences.

‘Wild Africa’, a 13-part weekly wildlife magazine series, premiered on Citizen TV on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and will air every Sunday at 2pm.

Created specifically for African audiences, the series combines wildlife storytelling with profiles of conservationists and communities working to protect the continent’s natural heritage.

The premiere episode features Oscar-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o exploring elephant conservation in Kenya. It also takes viewers to Nigeria, where conservationists are working to rescue sea turtles, and Namibia, where efforts are underway to protect the elusive pangolin.

Several Kenyan conservation initiatives are featured throughout the series, including IFAW’s Room to Roam initiative, dolphin conservation in Watamu Marine National Park and elephant conservation efforts by Save the Elephants in Samburu National Reserve.

The programme also profiles Moses Kinyaika, a former poacher who has transformed his life and now works as a safari guide, highlighting the role communities can play in wildlife conservation.

Series Producer and Wild Africa CEO Peter Knights OBE said the programme seeks to showcase Africans at the forefront of wildlife protection while highlighting both the challenges they face and their successes.

“Wild Africa showcases Africans with a passion to protect their incredible wildlife, their challenges and their successes and we hope it entertains as it educates and inspires,” Knights said.

The series comes against a backdrop of growing concerns over the decline of Africa’s wildlife and natural habitats. According to the producers, monitored wildlife populations across Africa have declined by 76 per cent over the past 50 years, while an estimated 3.9 million hectares of forest are lost across the continent each year.

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) President and CEO Azzedine Downes said the series provides audiences with an opportunity to see Africa’s wildlife through the experiences of people working on the frontlines of conservation.

“The vivid imagery and inspiring stories captured through the lens of the creators not only fuel a sense of wonder, but offer a renewed drive to commit to the shared goal of conservation and generational stewardship of the natural environment,” Downes said.

The series was filmed in Cape Town by Wild Africa, with support from IFAW and the Tammy Estrada Strome Foundation, and is set to broadcast across Africa.

Kenyan viewers can watch ‘Wild Africa’ every Sunday at 2pm on Citizen TV.

The series is also available through its social media platforms under @wildafricaorg and its website, where viewers can access additional wildlife stories and information on supporting conservation efforts.
