    Siblings

Wojciech has one brother named Jan Szczęsny, who is older and was born in 1987.

Like their father Maciej, a former professional goalkeeper, both brothers followed the path of playing in goal.

Jan pursued a football career primarily in the Polish lower leagues before transitioning into coaching as a goalkeeping coach.

Their father Maciej played for several Polish clubs including Legia Warsaw and represented Poland at international level.

    Career

Szczęsny began his career in the youth system of Legia Warsaw before joining Arsenal in 2006 at the age of 16.

He made his senior debut for the Gunners and enjoyed loan spells, notably at Brentford, before becoming a regular in the Arsenal lineup and winning FA Cups.

He had successful loan periods at Roma before transferring to Juventus in 2017, where he thrived as a key player and leader, winning multiple Serie A titles.

After leaving Juventus in 2024 and announcing a short-lived retirement, he signed with Barcelona in October 2024 as an emergency replacement following an injury to Marc-André ter Stegen.

He has since extended his contract with the club until 2027 and contributed to La Liga success while serving as an experienced squad member.

Internationally, he was Poland’s first-choice goalkeeper for many years, participating in major tournaments including World Cups and European Championships before retiring from national duty.

    Accolades

With Arsenal, Szczęsny won FA Cups and a Community Shield.

At Juventus, he secured three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies, and two Supercoppa Italiana.

With Barcelona, he has contributed to La Liga titles, Supercopa de España victories, and a Copa del Rey.

Individually, he has been named in the Serie A Team of the Season and recognized as Polish Newcomer of the Year early in his career.
