A woman was found dead in a lodging where she had booked with a suspected assailant in Awasi area, Kisumu County.

The woman was only identified as Maurine and was known in the area. She had on October 22, 2025 booked a room at the lodge with a man who is yet to be identified when the incident happened.

Police said her body had stab wounds in the back, neck and thighs.

A waiter at the lounge where the lodging is said she heard screams where the deceased was and alerted the security who rushed to the scene when they stumbled on the body. This was at about 2 am on October 23.

The victim lay in a pool of blood when the body was found while the assailant had escaped.

Police said they are investigating the murder. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Elsewhere in Igembe, Meru County, one Mwendia Ntoiti, 25 was found murdered and his body abandoned on the roadside.

Police said the body had deep cuts in the right side of the neck and it is believed he was killed at the scene. The incident happened as he was robbed of his motorcycle. The deceased was a boda boda rider in the area.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

This is the latest such incident where boda boda riders are targeted and killed or seriously injured while being robbed of their motorcycles.

Police advise the riders to always cooperate with their attackers for their own safety.

An investigation into the incidents so far reported is ongoing. Most of the stolen motorcycles are sold locally or in neighbouring countries to unsuspecting buyers, police say.

Some of the motorcycles are dismantled and the parts sold as spares.
