A 62-year-old woman is nursing a gunshot wound after she was struck by a stray bullet while hanging clothes outside her home in Machini area, Nakuru East Sub-County.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at around 12:30 pm.

The victim was reportedly in her compound picking clothes from a hanging line when the bullet hit her on the left shoulder.

She was rushed to Nakuru Specialist Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Police officers from Mwariki Police Station visited the hospital and confirmed through an X-ray examination that the bullet had lodged in her shoulder.

Medical personnel said she is in stable condition and awaiting surgery to remove the bullet.

Police officers also visited the scene at her residence within Machini Centre as investigations into the source of the stray bullet continue.

And a fishing expedition turned tragic at Sharks Beach in Likoni, Mombasa County, after a 45-year-old fisherman drowned while attempting to swim to shore following rough sea conditions.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 pm while three men were fishing in the area on May 19, police said.

The group, which included the deceased Emmanuel Lewa, was reportedly aboard a motorboat when strong waves struck, forcing them to jump into the water and attempt to swim back to shore.

Police said Emmanuel Lewa was overwhelmed by the rough waters and drowned during the ordeal.

A team of police visited the scene and confirmed that local divers had launched a search operation to retrieve the body.

Meanwhile, police in Tana North Sub-county are investigating a fatal crocodile attack after the remains of a 55-year-old man were recovered along the banks of River Tana in Bawama area.

According to the police, the victim had earlier been reported missing at Madogo Police Station on May 16.

The deceased was identified as Hiyesa Yakub Maro, a resident of Sombo village in Sala Ward.

Police said family members had been conducting a search for him before discovering his remains along the riverbank. Preliminary findings indicated that he had been attacked and partly eaten by a crocodile.

Police and personnel from Kenya Wildlife Service and crime scene investigators visited and documented the scene.

Authorities established that most parts of the body had been devoured, with only the pelvic area remaining intact.

The remains were moved to Garissa Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
