Zamalek SC of Egypt is one of the legendary and successful clubs in Africa with nine continental titles.

The White Knights arrive in the country Friday afternoon for Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup Group D game against Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Stadium.

The much awaited encounter which is laced with so much history and nostalgia will kick-off at 4.00pm local time.

They return to Kenya to face the same opponent in the same competition for the first time since 1998.

In the last meet, the hosts emerged 1-0 winners through Steve Okumu’s lone strike, however, the return leg in Cairo saw K’Ogalo go down 4-0.

The most famous match between the two clubs dates back 35 years in Cairo. The game was abandoned after Gor Mahia players attacked the referee for perceived biased refereeing. The club was handed a two-year ban by CAF.

A number of players were also banned for life notably legendary Abbas Magogo, who was later nicknamed Zamalek due to his prominent role in the chaos.

Zamalek go into this tie against a back drop of a strong domestic form. The five times African Champions have only lost once in 18 fixtures and have won a whopping 14 games.

They are currently the Egyptian Premier League log leaders and are yet to taste defeat this year.

Gor Mahia on the other hand have been blowing hot and cold and will have to be at their supreme best to get a result on Sunday.
