The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted 35 candidates for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal.

15 vacancies had been advertised in the Office of Judge of the Court of Appeal on June 9, 2025, and invited applications from qualified individuals.

By the close of the application period on July 7, 2025, a total of 94 applications had been received.

After reviewing all submissions for completeness and compliance with the set requirements, the Commission shortlisted 35 candidates to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

“The commission will communicate the date of the interviews in due course,” JSC Said.

Judges of the Court of Appeal play a key role in ensuring justice is upheld. They mainly hear appeals from lower courts such as the High Court to determine whether the law was applied correctly and whether proceedings were fair.

Unlike trial judges, appellate judges do not hear new evidence or conduct fresh trials. Instead, they review records from lower courts, assess written submissions, and may hold oral arguments before delivering their rulings.

The Court of Appeal serves as a critical pillar in developing legal precedent and safeguarding constitutional justice in Kenya.
