Police are investigating an incident in which a mob lynched a 32-year-old man on suspicion of being a thief as his mom pleaded with them to spare him in Highrise area, Nairobi.

The deceased was identified as Kevin Kimani and was accused of stealing unknown goods from the public in the area.

Witnesses had spotted the man being attacked by a mob before they alerted the mother in the Thursday January 30 afternoon incident.

She arrived at the scene and found the man being stoned and pleaded with the mob in vain.

Witnesses said she pleaded with them and they stopped the beating but with life-threatening injuries.

He was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to the injuries hours later.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. Police said they are investigating the incident with the aim of taking further action.

Such incidents have been on the rise amid calls on the mobs to abandon the trend of mob lynching.

Police brand mob lynching criminal and want the public to always surrender suspects to them for processing.

Elsewhere in Marafa, Magarini, Kilifi County, one Samson Manyeso Karisa, 34 was found lying dead along the shores of river Galana near the bridge.

Police said the deceased body was found lying with injuries on the head suspected to have been inflicted by a blunt object.

It was also established that there were some burns on the head and across the river, there was a burnt motor-cycle which he was last seen riding early in the morning with his school-going child as a pillion passenger heading to Baricho Primary School.

Police said they are investigating a murder in the January 30 incident. The motive of the murder is yet to be known.

The body was moved to Malindi Sub-County hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
