A suspect who was carrying what police termed as explosives was arrested at the Likoni Crossing in Mombasa.
He was headed for Diani, Kwale County, when he was arrested on board a bus on Wednesday, police said.
He was identified as Shinali Amuna Komoro.
Komoro was traveling from Nairobi to Diani on board a Pioneer bus when he was arrested.
He was first found carrying a live bullet in his hand, police said.
He was then ordered to surrender his bag, where three explosives labeled TNT were recovered. His motives are yet to be known.
TNT (trinitrotoluene) is are very high explosives formed from toluene by substitution of three hydrogen atoms with nitro groups.
Police said they are interrogating the suspect to get more information on his motives.
The incident caused panic at the checkpoint before police whisked away the suspect.
Police have intensified operations in the country to contain any plans by terror suspects to strike.
The arrest of Komoro comes after 2017 terror Suspect was re-arrested over links with Somalia-based al-Shabaab group.
The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) revealed that Ramadhan was found in possession of articles connected with the commission of a terrorist group contrary to section 30 of the Prevention of terrorism Act 2012.
The suspect was arrested in Kichangii area of Nyali, Mombasa County, on Thursday March 29, 2025 and was presented in Court on Tuesday April 2.
The detectives successfully requested the court to allow them to continue holding the suspect for 14 days as investigations are on.
They told the court that the phone of the suspect had been sent to the ATPU headquarters in Nairobi for forensic analysis in the cyber forensic laboratory.
