A contractor was attacked and killed by a mob after he fatally stabbed a female owner of a building he was constructing in Kimilili, Bungoma County.

The body of the woman was found in an incomplete house in Makhonge village after her brutal murder.

She was the owner of the house under construction, police said.

The victim had traveled from Nairobi to the area to Makhonge village to supervise the ongoing construction of her house when a disagreement arose on April 22, 2025, police said.

This is after she questioned the progress of the construction and why there were fewer materials at the site.

This prompted a confrontation between her and the man that turned fatal, police and witnesses said.

Police said they found the lifeless body of the woman lying inside an incomplete house with a deep cut on the face, a stab wound on her left neck, and her left wrist chopped off.

It was established that the deceased lady had travelled from Nairobi to oversee the progress of her construction, and a disagreement arose, leading to her brutal murder by her contractor.

The contractor identified as Katila Mumbwa, 40 was also subjected to mob injustice by an angry mob who responded after they heard commotion in the said building.

Police later moved the bodies to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Elsewhere, a 70-year-old woman was found murdered in a village in Keumbu, Kisii County.

The motive of the murder of Prisca Gesare Manyara on April 22 is yet to be established.

Police said the incident happened in Enchoro village before the body was discovered in a maize plantation.

The deceased had her neck slit open and there were strain marks on the left armpit and lay in a pool of blood.

No murder weapon was recovered at the scene.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Cases of murder linked to land disputes have been on the rise in the area.

Police say they are investigating the trend and some of them are pending in courts.
