Gospel artist Alex Nyachonga Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, was on Thursday May 15 arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts alongside his co-accused Alfred Juma Ayora over allegations of defrauding a businesswoman of a parcel of land valued at Sh50 million.

The two were charged with three counts including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and perjury, in connection to a property located in the Karen area of Nairobi.

According to court documents, the accused allegedly conspired to fraudulently acquire land parcel number NAIROBI/BLOCK, measuring approximately 0.1908 hectares, belonging to Terresia Adhiambo Odhiambo.

Prosecutors said that the accused falsely claimed adverse possession, alleging that they had occupied the land for over two decades, a claim they are said to have known was untrue.

Further, the prosecution alleged that on February 28, 2023, in Nairobi, the duo swore a false affidavit before advocate S.M. Katonya declaring long-term occupancy of the disputed property—an act said to have been committed with full knowledge of its falsity.

They denied the charges and pleaded for lenient bail terms.

Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego will on Monday next week make a ruling on whether it will grant Ringtone and his co-accused bail or not.

It is not the first time that Ringtone is being caught in such trouble.
