Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has praised the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), saying it remains the last hope for Kenyans pushing for justice and positive change.
Speaking after attending the LSK Public Interest Gala at a Nairobi hotel on Friday, October 31, 2025, the former Vice President urged lawyers to stand firmly with ordinary citizens whenever their rights are threatened.
Kalonzo warned that the country could face serious instability if legal professionals fail to act, pointing to ongoing electoral unrest in Tanzania, where lives have reportedly been lost. He said Kenya must avoid a similar situation by protecting the rights of all citizens through the justice system.
“When I went to court near Kamiti Maximum Prison and saw young Kenyans being charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, I realised how easily our country can slip away. Lawyers were born to set this right. If you doubt it, look at the streets of Dar es Salaam,” Kalonzo said in a message on X.
He also commended advocates who represent arrested Kenyans without payment, saying their work is essential in moments of national change.
“These are times of real change, a positive revolution. The LSK, in my view, is our last hope. I celebrate those of you who offer legal help pro bono to support fellow citizens,” he added.
Kalonzo also sent a message to the newly appointed chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), Claris Awuor Ogangah-Onyango, urging her to stand on the side of Kenyans seeking fairness and justice.
“Your job is clear: be on the side of people calling for justice,” he said.
Claris Ogangah officially took over leadership of the Commission from Vice Chairperson Raymond Nyeris on Thursday, October 30, 2025. She pledged to continue defending human rights and promoting accountability across the country.
