What began as a domestic dispute has tragically ended in death, after Nicholas Kamau Kagecho, a 54-year-old resident of Umoja, Nairobi succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent assault more than two months ago.

The incident occurred on the night of December 24–25, 2025, when Kagecho was reportedly attacked in a shocking family dispute.

He sustained severe injuries and was initially rushed to Metropolitan Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Police investigations quickly traced the attack to two of Kagecho’s step-sons, identified as Brandon Githinji (29) and Benard Lee Ngugi (22). Authorities linked the assault to simmering domestic tensions that tragically escalated into violence.

The suspects were arrested on December 28, 2025, and arraigned in court under a Miscellaneous Application, seeking custodial orders to allow investigators to continue inquiries while the victim remained hospitalized.

Following medical reports confirming the severity of Kagecho’s injuries, the two were formally charged with grievous harm under Section 234 of the Penal Code and remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending further proceedings.

Despite months of intensive medical care, Kagecho’s injuries proved fatal.

On March 6, 2026, he passed away in the ICU, bringing a heartbreaking end to his prolonged struggle for survival, police said.

Following his death, authorities confirmed that the charges against Githinji and Ngugi have been upgraded.

The suspects now face murder charges under Section 203, read together with Section 204 of the Penal Code.

Investigations remain ongoing as detectives finalize legal procedures to formally present the upgraded charges in court.

The suspects remain in lawful custody at Industrial Area Remand, as the justice system prepares to handle the more serious charges.

This case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes turning violent and serves as a reminder of the critical role of timely intervention and legal enforcement in protecting vulnerable family members.
