Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has revealed he is set to undergo emergency surgery after doctors discovered a “massive” blood clot in his leg, just weeks after a 21-day hospital stay.

In an Instagram video posted from a hospital bed at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas, Hilton said the condition was detected after he experienced severe pain that quickly worsened.

“We caught this early,” he told followers, explaining that the pain in his leg became so intense he was unable to walk and had to use a walker before seeking urgent medical attention.

Hilton said doctors later confirmed he was suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after an ultrasound scan. He added that he was “thankful” the condition was detected in time, warning that the clot could have become life-threatening if it had travelled to his lungs or heart.

The 46-year-old said he is scheduled to undergo a thrombectomy procedure, during which surgeons will remove the “fully occluded” clot, which he described as extending from his groin down to his foot.

“I’ll be put under in emergency surgery and they’re going to remove it,” he said, adding that he would update fans after the operation.

Hilton also noted that some of the medical staff treating him were the same nurses who cared for him during his earlier three-week hospitalisation.

He concluded his message by asking followers for support and prayers as he prepares for surgery.
