A suspected mastermind in a motorcycle theft and robbery-with-violence syndicate operating in Meru County and its environs has been arrested.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mutuati arrested Evans Munene Kinyua, alias “Mutharimi”, following an intelligence-led operation in Ngitana, Mutuati Sub-County.
According to the DCI, Kinyua is believed to be a key player and alleged mastermind in a syndicate involved in motorcycle theft and robbery with violence in Meru and surrounding areas.
The suspect had previously managed to evade detectives, but investigators eventually traced him to Ngitana, where he was arrested.
The arrest is expected to help detectives uncover more details about the alleged criminal network and identify other individuals suspected to be involved.
During the operation, detectives recovered a red Captain Max motorcycle that is suspected to have been stolen.
The motorcycle was found in Kinyua’s possession and has since been secured as an exhibit as investigations continue.
Detectives are expected to establish the motorcycle’s ownership and circumstances surrounding its alleged theft.
The recovery could also provide investigators with leads as they work to establish whether the motorcycle was linked to other reported theft or robbery cases in the region.
Kinyua remains in police custody while detectives continue with investigations into the activities of the suspected syndicate.
The DCI said the arrest forms part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks and recover property suspected to have been stolen.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) remains relentless in trailing down criminals, dismantling criminal networks and recovering stolen property,” the agency said.
