    Swapping columns in Excel is a useful skill when organizing or correcting data in a spreadsheet. Sometimes information is placed in the wrong order, and moving columns can improve readability and structure. Learning how to swap columns in Excel helps you manage your data more efficiently without retyping information. With a few simple methods, you can rearrange columns quickly and keep your spreadsheet organized.

      • Select the Column You Want to Move
      • Use the Shift and Drag Method
      • Swap the Second Column
      • Save Your Changes

      Open Your Excel Spreadsheet

    Start by opening the Excel file that contains the columns you want to swap.

    Review the data carefully before making changes.

    • Open the correct spreadsheet
    • Identify the columns to move
    • Save a backup if necessary
    1. Select the Column You Want to Move

    Click the letter at the top of the column to highlight the entire column.

    This ensures all the data in that column is selected.

    • Click the column header
    • Highlight the full column
    • Confirm the correct selection
    1. Use the Shift and Drag Method

    Move your cursor to the edge of the selected column until the move pointer appears.

    Hold the Shift key, then drag the column to the new position.

    • Hold the Shift key
    • Drag the column carefully
    • Release it in the desired location
    1. Swap the Second Column

    Repeat the process for the second column if needed to complete the swap properly.

    Check the arrangement after moving the columns.

    • Move the second column
    • Align data correctly
    • Ensure no information is lost
    1. Save Your Changes

    After swapping the columns, save the spreadsheet to keep the updated layout.

    Review the data once more to confirm accuracy.

    • Save the file
    • Check formatting and data
    • Confirm the new arrangement
